Silly Collapse was born in 2020 from numerous conversations about the impact of the fashion industry on the environment. While we were in love with fashion and craftsmanship, the working conditions and the permanent destruction of ecosystems the fashion industry implies repealed us. We absolutely wanted to go another way. Through the years and the practice of upcycling, we orientated ourselves toward creating from materials that were already “lost” for the fashion industry. We make all our garments from the leftovers this giant industry leaves behind. We also learned about fibers and their behaviors through time. We now seek for more sustainable materials and ways to produce our creations, while keeping in mind our desire to give birth to meaningful and intricate designs.

We entered a pattern-making cursus in a Belgian school in 2022, which allowed us to explore different shapes and ranges of garments and to fully express ourselves through the cut. We dig in multiple references to lead to our design identity. Each of the four collections we present on our website take place in a universe at the crossroads of various inspirations, such as paintings, movies, musics or even video games as well as natural shapes present in the wild. More than just a mix of multiple references, these collections also convey their own messages. Our pieces are undeniably infused with Silly Collapse’s positions on the state of the fashion system....

We define ourselves as an association of craftpersons, not as a brand. This specification really matters to us, as we do not want to establish a classical pyramidal system when it comes to creation. We deeply believe in the power of a shared identity, especially within the act of fashion design that requires many specific skills. Silly Collapse has been founded as an association of individuals going in the same direction, and we hope many others will join us in the future toward a more relevant, more sustainable and more respectful fashion.
